HONOURABLE MENTION
a string of footsteps
up and down the mountain side
like a wordless prayer -
what better tribute than this
to honor its snowy crown?

CARIBBEAN KIGO kUKAI #128
THEME -- SHOPPING
FIRST PLACE
13
homeless -
above the shopping cart
a sky full of stars
-Ana Drobot (Romania)
VOTE:537*** SCORE: 32
COMMENT: 1. such a nice and sad imageCOMMENT: 2. The haiku is poignant, brings home the glaring irony of stereotypical festive celebrations. Festivity has acquired materialistic connotations- shopping, gifting, merry making ,linked to purchasing power of which the poor and the homeless have none. But they do have the power of dreams and the haiku seems to allude to that.
Shopping day-
the brimful basket and
your empty wallet

Johnny Baranski Memorial Haiku Contest
Honorable Mention
morning frost
how brightly shines
the barbed wire
Florin C. Florian
Botoșani, Romania
Winter finds the prison yard, yet an inmate discovers unintended beauty that even the prison walls can’t keep out. A sense of hope in a dark time. I enjoyed the nod to Johnny Baranski, who wrote so many prison poems.

L-am scris direct în engleză având pe retină o imagine
tulburătoare dintr-o carte despre Auschwitz. Încerc, aici, o adaptare în
limba română:

Tomorrow, Steliana Voicu and her family will celebrate the centenary
of the Great Union Day--the unification of Transylvania, Bessarabia and
Bukovina with the Romanian Kingdom on Dec. 1, 1918. They look forward to
a military parade and fireworks while eating beans with sausages, meat
rolls and cakes.
